Before I take a long break from posting (I’m not referring to the last two weeks), I wrote about the the tools of the traditional witch (Post: To Tools or Not To Tools). I have made a brief discussion about how a witch doesn’t really need tools to be a witch, but what are the resources of the traditional witch? What is it that a witch uses and incorporates as part of her or his path?
We could be as vague to mention that the main resource of the witch is the earth, which is absolutely accurate, but what is it specifically that will make it into the arsenal of ingredients and resources of a witch? In general, that is up to you.
Many information is available out there from fellow witches claiming there are a handful of items you should have as a practitioner of witchcraft, which is absolutely great given that there was a time without any information out there, but the truth of the situation is that this will depend on where you live and how you live. The hundreds of bloggers and authors (including myself) out there will tell you what they adopt in their practice, but this doesn’t mean you have to do the same. Remember, they don’t know what you have available around you for you to use except from you.
A simple way to know what you can use is: whatever you have available and able to get your hands on, and yourself. Yes, there are ever so powerful formulas out there where we can attract a lover or get a lot of money (or so they claim), but no one said there aren’t alternative ways to do your spells and get the same result. If you don’t have an ingredient around you, then replace that with what you can pick up outside or the supermarket.
We are also very lucky that we have the internet where we can buy lots and lots of ingredients and herbs, however, there are some things that you can’t just purchase, but you can find them just as easily.
A very simple way to learn your resources is just to get out there. Have a walk in the park or woods or whatever you have where you live. Observe what there is. Do you see any source of water? How many crossroads? How many plants and trees can you identify? Even the spices and herbs and other items are sold in the local supermarket.
Those are there to help you. They are available for you to use in your craft. You see, you don’t need to spend a fortune to be the witch they want you to be. You just need to get out there and let nature give you a hand. Let your intuition guide you and you will find all that you need.
